Critical Analysis of a Case Study
Three part assignment including:
- Case Conceptualisation Definitions (500 words)
- Case Conceptualisation Essay on case study supplied (1200 to 1500 words)
- Concept map (Diagram)
The purpose of this assessment task is for students to develop a case formulation/conceptualisation for a given case study scenario client with a unique worldview shaped by various cultural experiences.
Use the 5Ps model as a framework to build your case conceptualisation.
Process to follow:
To complete this task, students will need to complete three parts:
- Part 1. Define case conceptualisation and case conceptualisation in Counselling – 500 words
- Part 2. Using the 5P model, as a framework, develop a case conceptualisation for one of the four scenario clients included in this Unit Outline (use a MS Word document -1200 to 1500 words)
- Part 3. Formulate a concept map diagram based on the strengths, limitations and insights drawn from building your case conceptualisation of your client and their particular scenario. Include reflections on what you have gained through this client case conceptualisation process.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you approach this assignment:
Step 1: Understand the Assignment
The assignment is divided into three parts: definitions, case conceptualisation essay and a concept map. Make sure you clearly understand the objective of each part.
Step 2: Research
Search for reliable academic sources that explain case conceptualisation and the 5Ps model in counselling. You will need to cite these in your paper, so ensure they’re credible.
Step 3: Case Conceptualisation Definitions
Start with the first part of your assignment – the definitions. Define what a case conceptualisation is, especially in the context of counselling. Aim for about 500 words, ensure clarity and precision.
Step 4: Choose a Case Study
From the four scenarios given in your unit outline, select one that you understand well and believe you can analyze effectively.
Step 5: Case Conceptualisation Essay
This is the core part of your assignment. Structure your essay around the 5Ps model, which usually stands for presenting issue, predisposing factors, precipitating factors, perpetuating factors, and protective factors. Analyze your selected case study according to these categories. Stay within the word limit of 1200-1500 words.
Step 6: Concept Map
Create a visual representation that summarizes the case conceptualisation. This should include the key points from your essay and illustrate the interconnections between different elements of your conceptualisation. There are several digital tools available online for creating concept maps.
Step 7: Reflection
Reflect on the strengths, limitations, and insights gained from building your case conceptualisation. Include these reflections in your concept map.
Step 8: Review and Edit
Go through your work thoroughly. Check for clarity, coherence, grammar, and punctuation errors. Make sure your essay flows logically, and your concept map accurately represents the main points from your essay.
